Safdarjung Tomb Lights Up Blue for World Autism Awareness Day

In a striking visual tribute to World Autism Awareness Day, Safdarjung Tomb in Delhi was illuminated in blue this evening, drawing attention to the importance of awareness, acceptance, and inclusion for individuals on the autism spectrum.

The initiative was led by the Autism Centre for Excellence (ACE), Gurugram, in collaboration with the Sabhyata Foundation and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), aligning with the global theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value.”

Lighting up one of the capital’s iconic heritage landmarks served as a powerful visual statement, leveraging a shared public space to inspire wider conversations around neurodiversity and inclusion. Over the years, ACE has been at the forefront of working with children and young people on the autism spectrum, focusing on building communication, learning, and essential life skills, while also driving awareness beyond the classroom.

Dr Archana Nayar, Director of the Autism Centre for Excellence (ACE), said “Illuminating a landmark like Safdarjung Tomb helps bring visibility to a cause that needs continued attention. It’s a reminder that inclusion has to be a shared responsibility. Every individual on the autism spectrum has unique strengths, perspectives, and potential, and it is up to all of us to create environments where they are supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.”

On World Autism Awareness Day, we come together to recognise the importance of acceptance and inclusion. The blue-lit Safdarjung Tomb stands as a powerful visual reminder of the need to build a more empathetic and inclusive world. Individuals on the autism spectrum bring diverse perspectives and strengths, and when supported in the right environments, they can truly flourish. It is our shared responsibility to create spaces where they feel seen, valued, and empowered every day.

The blue-lit monument stood as a quiet but impactful reminder of the need for a more inclusive and understanding society.
