Condemn the Misogynistic Comment by Bihar’s Newly Appointed Education Minister, Mithilesh Tiwari: AISA. JNU

Mithilesh Tiwari, the Education Minister of Bihar, stated in a video: “What is the need for girls’ education?” This remark cannot be viewed in isolation.

It must be understood in the broader context of RSS ideology, which glorifies the Manusmriti and promotes a patriarchal worldview that treats women as subordinate to men rather than as independent individuals. We believe that a person like him does not have the right to hold a position like Minister of Education. This is not the first time that he has made such insensitive comments. Years back in 2025, when the son of a veteran communist leader died of corona, this person ridiculed the death of a young life instead of expressing minimal sympathy to a bereaved father. Furthermore, his track record is thoroughly tainted with proven charges of corruption. In 2009, this person disbursed sums mandated for contractual teachers to a person who did not even have the qualifications required to become a teacher. The State of Bihar through the Department of Vigilance had made an enquiry and found him guilty and chargesheeted in the case. However, the court never pronounced a judgement.

Now the question is why people with such unscrupulous, insensitive, and misogynistic track records have been assigned important portfolios like education by the BJP government. Actually, it shows the telling reality of how the BJP government prioritise “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” only in rhetorics. Consider the recent case of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. His son, Bandi Bhageerath, has been booked for the alleged sexual assault of a 17 year old girl under the POCSO Act. Hours before the FIR was registered, Bhageerath himself lodged a complaint against the girl’s family, a common tactic to intimidate survivors. Bandi Sanjay is a BJP MP representing Karimnagar. When a Union Minister responsible for the country’s internal security cannot ensure accountability within his own home, when his son faces charges of sexually assaulting a minor, the entire system reveals its protective shield for Sexual offenders in power. This is the consistent pattern of the Manuvadi BJP RSS machinery. We demand the immediate removal of Mithilesh Tiwari from all constitutional posts.
