Today is the Day 3 of the protest led by J&K Girls’ Hostel Residents. At midnight around 1 am, after the electricity was shutdown, Assistant Proctor Maqsood Ahmad Malik manhandled and assaulted students who were sitting in solidarity with the protestors near Dean of Students’ Welfare Office.
It started with a student coming near the vicinity of Assistant Proctor and then he started intimidating the student. Upon resistance, Assistant Proctor violently assaulted the student. Soon when other students came in and started recording, Assistant Proctor started manhandling the students recording him for his violent actions resulting in snatching of phone of one student. Inspite of such intimidation, students continued the demonstrations asking for the fulfillment of promised demands. Students went on Sit in for whole night expecting from the administration to fulfill their demands of ensuring cancellation of the contract of current vendor, assurance of female staff only in mess and resignation of Provost, Warden and Caretaker but no attempts of acceptance of demands are seen from the administrations side.
Instead electricity is still shut down causing discomfort for students on Sit in near Centenary Gate. Other than that, Gate no. 13 have been closed and barricaded with three layers of barricading which is abnormal for a functioning University in order to isolate the protestors and crush the demonstration.
