Remembering Father Stan Swamy on his martyrdom anniversary.

On this day, 5 years ago, Father Stan Swamy passed away in captivity due to alledged medical negligence at the peak of Covid-19 pandemic. He was labelled in baseless cases, his residence was raided multiple times and he was held in confinement without trial in the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case. Father Stan Swamy dedicated his life to a struggle hand in hand with the adivasis for the question of jal, jungle and zameen. He was an avid critique of the anti-people policies and of fake labelling and arrests of innocent people after being tagged as “maoists” by the state. He embarked on a rigorous documentation of all such arrests and unmasked the real repressive nature behind these arrests.

The custodial murder of father stan swamy reminds us of the brutal, ruthlessness of the fascist crackdown that we are currently facing. A repression that cares neither for life, nor for justice and deems every voice against it as worthy of punishment and persecution.
