JNUSU strongly condemns the arbitrary arrests and illegal detention of AISA and CPI(ML) leaders by the Bihar Police in a blatant attempt to crush democratic dissent.
The Bihar Government has once again demonstrated its complete disregard for constitutional rights by targeting student leaders, elected representatives, and political activists for their legitimate democratic activities. Earlier today, Comrade Dipankar, State Secretary of AISA Bihar, and Comrade Saba, State Vice President of AISA Bihar, were arrested from the AISA state office in Patna. Later, Sandeep Saurav, MLA from Paliganj, Comrade Dhananjay, former President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), Comrade Naushad, Vice President of AISA Delhi, and Comrade Parvez of CPI(ML) Bihar were taken into custody from the residence of Sandeep Saurav. Shockingly, Comrade Parvez had arrived in Patna from Jehanabad only around 5:00 pm today, exposing the arbitrary and fabricated nature of these arrests.
Comrade Dhananjay and Sandeep Saurav have reportedly been lodged in Beur Jail, while the whereabouts of Comrade Naushad remain unknown. The refusal of the authorities to disclose his location raises grave concerns about his safety and constitutes a serious violation of democratic and legal norms. These arrests are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of state repression against students, youth, and democratic movements. Instead of addressing the genuine concerns of the people, the BJP-led Bihar Government has chosen the path of intimidation, unlawful detention, and criminalisation of political dissent. Such actions strike at the very foundation of democracy and the constitutional right to organise, protest, and express political views.
JNUSU stands in unwavering solidarity with all those who have been illegally arrested and with the democratic struggles being waged across Bihar. We demand the immediate disclosure of Comrade Naushad’s whereabouts, the unconditional release of all those arrested, and an immediate end to the ongoing crackdown on democratic rights. We also demand that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan take responsibility for the deepening assault on students and democratic voices and resign forthwith. JNUSU
