Today AISA activists joined the call given by the Joint Action Committee of AUD PhD scholars demanding the complete rollback of the mandatory attendance circular for PhD scholars.
The Dean Academic Affairs of Ambedkar University Delhi passed a rather controversial circular on 31st of July which has greatly irked the scholars’ community with forced surveillance alongside the acute infrastructural crisis in the university. This was the fourth time that a mass gathering collected with a delegation of councillors who met today with the Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Satyaketu Sankrit. The section officer who came to negotiate with the delegation demanded the identity cards of the PhD scholars which we denied. The Dean Academic Affairs had questioned the same circular which he signed, and deflected it stating it was the school deans themselves who had demanded such mandatory attendance register. The PhD scholars however informed that some of the School Deans had put the onus of releasing such a circular on the central administration.
The scholars also allege that such a circular was released in lieu of the movement in Jantar Mantar which ended victoriously after the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The meeting today with the Dean Academic Affairs was in consequential, the Dean refused to rollback the circular, while the Scholars and students are also determined to struggle peacefully until the mandatory attendance circular for PhD scholars is rolled back.
