Senior Citizens Health Camp by Illness to Wellness Foundation and Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club Senior Citizen

Health Camp in Wazirpur, Delhi provides screenings across dental, eye, ENT, orthopaedic and nutritional health; over 200 senior citizens participate

As people age, the risk of health concerns related to dental health, vision, hearing, bone and joint health, nutrition and other age-related conditions increase. These conditions often affect mobility, independence and overall quality of life. Many of these issues can develop gradually and may go unnoticed until they begin to significantly impact everyday activities. Therefore, regular and comprehensive health screenings become particularly important for senior citizens, enabling early identification, timely treatment and preventive care while helping them maintain healthier, more active and independent lives. Recognising the importance of preventive healthcare for senior citizens, the Illness to Wellness Foundation partnered with Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club to organise a free, day-long preventive health camp at Wazirpur, Delhi, on September 9. The initiative aimed to provide senior citizens with access to essential health screenings while encouraging greater awareness of early detection, preventive care and healthier ageing.

More than 200 senior citizens and members of the club attended the camp, which provided health screenings across key areas of senior health. These included tests like oral health, vision, mobility, hearing, nutrition and overall quality of life. The wide range of screenings underscored the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to senior healthcare, where regular checks across different aspects of health can help identify concerns early and enable timely medical advice and intervention. The initiative also encouraged senior citizens to be more proactive about monitoring their health and addressing age-related concerns before they begin to affect everyday life. The free health camp was also organised to commemorate the martyrdom of Amar Shaheed Lala Jagat Narayan ji, whose life and work continue to inspire the Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club. As part of the initiative, Blue Card members of the club were also provided financial assistance and essential goods.

Chief Guest Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, congratulated the organisers for bringing preventive healthcare to senior citizens and highlighted the enduring relevance of Lala Jagat Narayan ji’s life and values. Speaking at the event, he said, “Lala Jagat Narayan ji’s life and work remain an inspiration. Senior citizens are a symbol of dignity, sensitivity and responsibility, and society has a responsibility to ensure that they can live with greater ease and dignity. Today, healthcare technology is increasingly focused on making services more accessible, and for senior citizens, the effective use of technology can significantly improve their ease of living and access to healthcare. A progressive society is one that combines the energy of the younger generation with the wisdom and experience of its senior citizens. This intergenerational connect is our real strength.” Sharing his thoughts on the preventive healthcare initiative for senior citizens, Mr. Anil Rajput, Chairperson, Advisory Council, Illness to Wellness Foundation, Chairman, said, “We are pleased to associate with the Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club for this meaningful health initiative dedicated to senior citizens. Preventive healthcare becomes even more important as we age, and regular health screenings can play a crucial role in identifying potential health concerns at an early stage. Through initiatives such as this, we aim to encourage greater awareness around preventive healthcare and make essential health services more accessible to the community. We deeply appreciate the efforts of the organisers and all the healthcare professionals and partners who have come together for this noble cause. We hope this initiative inspires more senior citizens to prioritise regular health check-ups and take proactive steps towards healthier living.”

Speaking at the event, Kiran Chopra, Director of Punjab Kesari and Chairperson of the Senior Citizen Kesari Club, said, “The presence of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and other distinguished dignitaries at today’s programme has been a great source of encouragement and motivation for us. Our efforts have always been focused on creating a stronger support system for senior citizens and bringing families together in this endeavour. The enthusiastic participation and support for this cause reaffirm our commitment and give us immense encouragement to take this mission forward and continue working towards the wellbeing, dignity and care of our senior citizens.” The event brought together representatives from the healthcare, pharmaceutical and education sectors, underlining the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing preventive healthcare for India’s ageing population.

Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri Dr. Anil Kohli, Former President, Dental Council of India, said, “It is heartening to see such enthusiastic participation from senior citizens in this health camp. Preventive healthcare plays a vital role in ensuring healthier ageing, and regular screenings can help identify potential health concerns at an early stage’. A team of medical experts supported the health camp, including Dr. Rahul Manchanda, Hon. Senior Consultant, Endoscopic Gynaecology, PRSI Hospital; and Dr. Dhiraj Bhatia, Senior Physician and Cardiologist. The initiative reflects the broader objective of the Illness to Wellness campaign to take preventive health awareness beyond conventional healthcare settings and bring essential screening and health education closer to communities. The National Illness to Wellness campaign was introduced in 2014 and remains committed to promoting health and wellbeing by empowering and educating people, encouraging collaboration and advocating sustainable health practices. Over the years, the campaign has expanded its outreach through health camps, awareness initiatives and regular webinars covering important health topics and developments, with the objective of encouraging people to adopt preventive approaches and make informed choices for healthier lives.
