Backward Classes Welfare Schemes Script a New Chapter of Inclusive Development in Uttar Pradesh

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Government made significant strides in strengthening welfare initiatives for Backward Classes in 2025. The year saw sustained implementation and expansion of schemes focused on education, social security and digital empowerment, reinforcing the State’s commitment to inclusive and outcome-oriented governance.

Scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes continued to provide large-scale educational support. During 2025–26, the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme benefitted 6,90,349 students with financial assistance of ₹147.75 crore, while the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme supported 5,85,954 students with ₹175.54 crore. In total, 12,76,303 students received direct assistance amounting to ₹323.29 crore in 2025. Over the past nine years, scholarship support has been extended to 2,20,29,760 students, with cumulative disbursement reaching ₹13,858.62 crore.

The Marriage Grant Scheme further strengthened social security for underprivileged families. During 2025–26 (up to December 23, 2025), financial assistance of ₹144.59 crore was provided to 72,296 daughters from Backward Classes. In both 2019–20 and 2024–25, one lakh beneficiaries each received assistance totalling ₹200 crore per year. Over nine years, the scheme has supported 6,47,863 beneficiaries with a total expenditure of ₹1,295.72 crore. The scheme covers eligible urban and rural families with an annual income ceiling of ₹1 lakh, subject to prescribed age criteria.

Skill development initiatives under the Computer Training Scheme continued to create pathways for employment and digital empowerment. During 2025–26 (up to December 23, 2025), 22,392 youths, including 18,159 males and 4,233 females, received computer training at a cost of ₹19.18 crore. Over nine years, 1,62,046 youths have been trained digitally at an expenditure of ₹154.56 crore, with 1,01,139 trainees completing O-Level certification and 60,907 completing CCC certification.

All benefits under these schemes were disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency, accountability and minimisation of leakages, while enabling timely delivery of welfare support to beneficiaries at the grassroots level.
