The ongoing hunger strike since 5 days demanding the reinstatement of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students Union (JMISU) was met with excessive force. Today morning the Jamia admin pushed out all the students from the campus at 5 AM.

Following this the admin sealed the campus, shutting down all activities and closing all gates. From around 3 PM the students of Jamia gathered at Gate 7 demanding the campus be opened. Despite police detentions and threats by the admin students have entered the campus to continue the sit in. AISA Jamia Secretary, Saurabh, questioned the backhanded tactics of the campus, “The university is made up of its students. Then on what authority has the administration shut down the campus? This is an illegal, anti-democratic move by an admin which refuses to engage in dialogue with its students and only ever relies on brute force to silence the students. AISA continues to stand with the demand to reinstate the union as part of the ongoing protest. We demand that the campus be opened and students be allowed to access essential educational facilities like the library and canteens. The students have decided, this time we will take the union back and ensure a democratic, student-led campus! AISA Jamia Millia Islamia
