Tenneco Clean Air India Limited organised a plogging drive on Tuesday, near Mahadev Temple, Nighoje, Chakan, Maharashtra, as part of its efforts to support community cleanliness and environmental awareness.

The area around Mahadev Temple is a busy public location that often experiences dry waste accumulation due to regular pedestrian and vehicular movement. The drive aimed to clean the surroundings and promote responsible waste disposal practices among residents and visitors.
Around 95 employees from Tenneco’s Chakan plant participated in the activity. Volunteers were briefed on safety measures, waste segregation, and reducing plastic use, and were encouraged to carry reusable water bottles. Each participant received a volunteer kit with waste collection bags and brooms.
Commenting on the activity, Mr. Arvind Chandra, whole-time Director and CEO, Tenneco India, said: “In a rapidly growing industrial region like Chakan, open dumping and unmanaged waste have real impacts on roads, local health, and the daily life of residents and workers. Through this plogging drive, Tenneco Clean Air India is turning awareness into action by encouraging responsible waste disposal and recycling, while actively involving our employees in building cleaner, greener communities. This reflects how we approach sustainability, not just in our operations, but in the communities, we are part of.”

Volunteers were briefed on safety measures, waste segregation, and reducing plastic use, and were encouraged to carry reusable water bottles. Each participant received a volunteer kit with waste collection bags and brooms. following which the teams carried out plogging, collecting only dry waste.
During the drive, 41 waste bags weighing 280.7 kg were collected by the volunteers. Additionally, 2 bags weighing 9.5 kg of waste were generated during the activity. In total, 43 bags comprising 290.2 kg of waste were handed over to the municipal garbage collection van. All collected waste was segregated into paper and plastic and sent for appropriate disposal and recycling.
The clean-up drive helped improve the immediate surroundings around the temple and adjoining public areas, making them safer and more accessible for local residents, commuters. The initiative also helped raise awareness among nearby communities about proper waste disposal and the importance of keeping shared public spaces clean.
