JNU Students Hold Candlelight Vigil in Solidarity with Iqra Firdaus, Demand Swift Justice

Students from Jammu & Kashmir at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) organized a candlelight vigil in solidarity with Iqra Firdaus, who went missing on the evening of May 30 after leaving her home to purchase some items. The vigil was attended by a large number of JNU students, members of the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU), and representatives of various progressive student organizations. Participants expressed deep concern over the lack of progress in the investigation and demanded justice for Iqra Firdaus and her family. Speaking at the vigil, Hafsa Bukhari, Councillor, JNUSU, stated, “We demand a fair and speedy trial in this case and that the perpetrators be brought to justice at the earliest.” Danish Ali, Joint Secretary, JNUSU, said, “JNUSU stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of Iqra Firdaus. We appeal to the administration to ensure justice is served; otherwise, the protest movement will be intensified.”

Akil, a student of Jamia Millia Islamia, questioned the delay in the investigation, stating, “We want to know the reason behind the delay in the investigation.” Irfan, a student of the University of Delhi, raised concerns regarding the lack of official communication, asking, “Why has the forensic report not been released, and why has there been no press briefing by the police?” The protesters collectively raised the following demands A fair and speedy trial in the case.
