Today AISA joined AUDSC KP and the Joint Action Committee of AUD PhD scholars demanding the complete rollback of the mandatory attendance circular for PhD scholars.
The Dean Academic Affairs of Ambedkar University Delhi passed a rather controversial circular on 31st of July which has greatly irked the scholars’ community with forced surveillance alongside the acute infrastructural crisis in the university. The students have been protesting for more than 2 months, across campuses, with multiple meeting and memorandums submitted with no resolution. After 22nd September’s “Chalo KG” call which was joined by hundred students where the Registrar had come to meet the student’s for resolution, was met with multiple complaints. Infrastructure work had simultaneously started across campuses, along with faculty recruitment. On 24th September , following Chalo KG call, the registrar releasing a notification stating the PhD Attendance-cum-Wherabouts Registry has put on ‘abeyance’ until the infrastructure crisis is resolved . The students reject the scraps that are thrown at us and demand complete rollback of all the circulars released in 31st July.
Mrinalini, CC Member, AUDSC KP said, “Our campus is falling apart in front of us, be it infrastructure, faculty, basic dignity or student rights. And the administration of a university named after Ambedkar meets us with pure apathy.” Today’s protest was joined by a large number of students while simultaneously ABVP had given a protest call regarding women safety. Resorting to campus hooliganism including violence, in the name of ending garrisoning on campus, an ABVP member harassed a female student on campus during the protest who has registered a police complaint against the student. There is nothing more unsafe for this campus than the closure of front gates and garrisoning of the campus, which makes AUD students take unsafe routes to the campus and when previously met with registrar the complaints have gone unanswered, along with today’s protest call.
Inlight of the developments that have transpired, the AUD Student Council Karampura has called for an indefinite sit-in from today, 28th September, at Kashmere Gate campus, which is being joined by AISA. A joint charter of demand which had been drawn by the students present includes,Complete rollback of all 31st July circulars, End the garrisoning of our campus spaces; dismantle iron gates,Reinstate PhD Fee Waiver. Ensure Students’ representation at all levels of decision making in the university; from board of management to infrastructure grievance redressal committee.
