Rural Skill Development in Karnal – DS Group

Certificates Awarded for Advanced Computer and Stitching courses Under Community Development Project

Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group), a leading FMCG conglomerate and multi business corporation organised a felicitation ceremony at Barota village in Karnal district, Haryana, in collaboration with NIIT Foundation and Singer India Limited to recognise trainees who successfully completed advanced computer and stitching certification programs. A total of 80 students were honoured for completing the advanced computer course certified by NIIT Foundation and stitching program certified through Singer India Limited.

During 2025 – 26, about 350 students, including close to 200 female participants, underwent computer training, while over 700 students have successfully completed the course cumulatively since inception. To further strengthen digital learning outcomes, the Foundation partnered with NIIT Foundation to introduce advanced computer certification courses supported by standardised assessments and practical learning modules. Under this collaboration, 130 students successfully completed the advanced certification course. The Stitching Centre, established in February 2026, completed its first training batch with 49 trainees successfully passing out on 9 May 2026. Through the partnership with Singer India Limited, trainees will receive industry-recognized certification, enabling them to pursue employment opportunities or establish self-owned boutique ventures with access to discounted sewing machines.

On the felicitation ceremony, Mr Prabhakant Jain, GM, Sustainability & CSR, DS Group said “DS Group’s Community Development Project has been driving integrated interventions across education, health, livelihood and environment over the past five years in Barota and nearby villages. Our collaborations with NIIT Foundation and Singer India Limited reflect our commitment to building meaningful pathways for skill development and rural empowerment. By providing industry-relevant training and recognized certifications, we aim to equip rural youth and women with the confidence, technical capabilities and entrepreneurial opportunities required to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to long-term community development.”

To address skill and employability challenges faced by rural youth and women, DS Group has established a Computer Training Lab and a Stitching Centre with a capacity to train 25 participants at a time. The initiative focuses on creating structured opportunities for beneficiaries to gain industry-relevant skills, improve employability and pursue entrepreneurship opportunities.

The broader Community Development Project continues to create impact across 10 villages through interventions including mobile medical clinics in five villages, strengthening Primary Health Centres (PHCs) services with doctors and medical equipment, STEM labs, academic support classes, open libraries, rooftop solar systems, Resource Recovery Centres for solid waste management, sports development initiatives. The project also promotes sustainable agriculture practices such as SRI, crop diversification, kitchen gardens, and vermicomposting.
